Technically a flannelette is defined as a
soft cotton with a nap - but so is a flannel. I split flannels from flannelettes
two ways - one is price- you generally get what you pay for and inexpensive
printed flannelettes will fade and pill and wear out faster than their more
expensive flannel cousins..... But for baby quilts, and receiving blankets, and
any thing else that's meant to be used and worn out and not passed down to
future generations - why not?
The other fabric in the flannelette family is double napped flannelette. Its the
stuff that's fuzzy on both sides. This stuff wears like iron - it just gets
thinner eventually.... I think we've still got dust rags from 40 year old double
napped flannelette diapers! - 1/2yard minimum cut
